Prof. Dr. Kristoff Corten

Prof. Dr. Kristoff Corten is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon, specialising in muscle-sparing reconstructive surgery of the hip joint.

During his doctoral research, he studied the anatomy of capsular releases to further refine and optimise the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA).

By developing surgical instruments and standardising all steps of the DAA, Prof. Dr. Corten has further optimised the operating room (OR) setting for DAA. He focused on teamwork, reducing the number of instrument trays, and process optimisation. This led to the development of the Efficient SurgerY (ESY) concept, of which parallel processing is the most important feature. The Efficient Direct Anterior (EDA) Hip has since become a global standard procedure for many surgeons and is the first procedure to embody all features and instruments of the ESY concept.

Each year, Prof. Dr. Corten hosts hundreds of visiting surgeons from all over the world. He is the (co-)author of more than 70 scientific publications and book chapters, and a regular invited speaker at leading international meetings, such as the annual DAA ICJR meeting in Houston.

Today, his focus is on OR efficiency and patient-centred total care efficiency.

Prof. Corten consistently opts for the least invasive solution that best serves your hip and your life. Where possible, the joint is preserved; where necessary, surgery is performed via the muscle-sparing EDA approach, with a focus on fast and high-quality recovery.
