Total Hip Arthroplasty, muscle-sparing surgery with One-Day-Hip

For severe hip osteoarthritis, we replace the worn joint with a titanium-ceramic prosthesis. Thanks to the EDA technique (Extended Direct Anterior), muscle mass remains intact and many patients go home the same day.

What is a total hip arthroplasty?

A total hip arthroplasty is a surgical procedure where the painful and stiff hip joint (osteoarthritis) is replaced by an implant. The goal of this surgery is to alleviate pain and improve mobility.

The prosthesis used by our surgeons consists of 4 components: a titanium outer shell for the socket, a polyethylene inner liner for the socket, a ceramic ball, and a titanium stem. There is a 95% probability of this prosthesis lasting for at least 25 years.

What does a total hip arthroplasty involve?

    • A small incision is made at the front of the hip.
    • The muscles are held aside without damaging them.
    • The worn hip joint is removed and replaced by a prosthesis.
    • The wound is closed, after which the recovery process begins.
    • Patients stay one night or undergo surgery on a day-hospital basis.

Our HipCloud application guides and monitors the pre- and postoperative process.

What can you expect after the surgery?

    • Immediately after surgery: walking independently with crutches.
    • Within a few weeks: return to daily activities.
    • Within 3-6 months: resumption of sports activities, depending on the load.
    • Our results show that 80% of patients experience a 'forgotten hip' after 6 to 9 months. This means they are completely pain-free.

    Our approach

At the European Hip Center, we combine advanced surgical techniques with personalised care. HipCloud, our digital platform, plays an important role in this:

    • Before surgery: preparation with education and guidance. Our surgical prediction model can personally predict your chances of a perfect recovery.
    • After surgery: monitoring your recovery and supporting rehabilitation.

This approach ensures a faster and safer recovery, tailored to your personal situation.

An accurate diagnosis is essential to determine the cause of the pain and initiate appropriate treatment.
