What is a rectus femoris repair?
In cases of a rectus femoris tear (part of the quadriceps/thigh muscle), a rectus femoris re-insertion can be performed.
The aim of this operation is to restore the anatomy so that you can resume your activities and sports.

How is a rectus femoris repair performed?
- You will be given a general anaesthetic.
- Through an incision in the groin crease, the quadriceps become visible.
- The surgeon reattaches the rectus femoris to the pelvis using several anchors.
- The wound is closed with surgical glue and subcutaneous absorbable sutures.
- This operation takes 1 hour.

What can you expect after the operation?
- Rehabilitation is gradual for the first 6 weeks. You will use crutches for the first 2 to 4 weeks.
- At the 6-week follow-up consultation, rehabilitation will be adjusted as necessary. You can gradually increase your daily activities.
- After 3 to 6 months: resumption of sports activities.
