Non-Surgical Programme

Treatment first, surgery only when necessary.

A structured rehabilitation programme with clear steps and transparent outcome measurement.

A conservative hip programme at EHC follows a clear rhythm: diagnosis, initiation of exercise therapy, working on your programme, and joint evaluation. You will always know what the next step is.

    Comparison

Surgical versus non-surgical: which is right for you?

A concise comparison of both pathways on the most important criteria. Which path suits you is decided together during consultation.

Surgical versus non-surgical: which is right for you?
    CriterionNon-surgical pathwaySurgical pathway
IndicationEarly or mild complaints, preserved cartilage, manageable with conservative care.Advanced osteoarthritis, structural damage, or failure of conservative therapy.
Pathway duration12 to 16 weeks of exercise therapy, followed by maintenance.Surgery in one day, rehabilitation is procedure-dependent: for a total hip replacement a few weeks, for other procedures 3 to 6 months. Follow-up to 1 year.
Recovery timeGradual progression, no time off work or sport. For total hip replacement (One-Day-Hip): same-day discharge, light activities within 2 weeks.
RisksLimited, mainly exercise related.Surgical risks such as bleeding, infection or thrombosis; kept low at EHC thanks to protocol.
GuidanceHip Coach, exercise programme in the HipCloud app, evaluation every 2 to 3 months.Multidisciplinary team, perioperative protocol, postoperative rehabilitation and check-ins.
When to considerFirst option whenever the condition allows it.When pain, mobility or function do not improve sufficiently despite exercise therapy.

    Frequently asked questions

    Good to know.

How long does a conservative programme typically last?

Most patients undergo 3 to 6 months of active rehabilitation, with evaluation sessions every 2-3 months. This is followed by a maintenance phase.

When is surgery considered as an option?

If pain and function do not improve sufficiently after a fair conservative period, and this is supported by imaging or clinical examination, we will discuss the step towards a surgical programme together.

Do I need to see a physiotherapist every week?

Not necessarily. Many patients work independently with the HipCloud app and come in periodically for follow-up and adjustments.

    Is this programme reimbursed?

You will receive partial reimbursement through your health insurance, but our care providers are not under agreement. For all your questions, you can reach us at info@europeanhipcenter.com.
